Obituary

Helena Pietrykowski, 95, of Defiance, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center.

She was born on May 15, 1918 to Jozef and Fronczak (Apolonia) Pawela in Gulkowo, Poland. On May 14, 1945 she married Gerhard Pietrykowski and he preceded her in death on July 25, 2003.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where she was active in the Noodle Club, helped prepare funeral luncheons, and cooked for the Priests. Helena was a cook for the Tip Top Restaurant and the Kettenring Country Club. She enjoyed baking, especially cookies for her family and friends. She also enjoyed cooking meals and spending time with her grandchildren.

Helena is survived by her sons, Gabriel (Deborah) Pietrykowski of Bryan, Edward (Dorthy) Pietrykowski of Defiance, daughter, Sophia (Charles) Froelich of Belleville, MI, 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gerhard Pietrykowski, and a brother, Jan Pawela.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 31, 2014, at 11:00 am at St Mary's Catholic Church with Father Randy Giesige officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be held Sunday, March 30, 2014 from 4-7 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance where a vigil service will be held at 4 pm.

Preferred memorials are to St. Mary's Pastoral Care Ministries.
