HELEN N. SCHULTZ Helen Newton Schultz, age 97, of Defiance , died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2008, at Lutheran Village at Wolfcreek in Holland, Oh. She had lived at Wolfcreek since 2001. She had lived in Defiance since 1946.. She was born June 13, 1911 in Coshocton, Oh. the daughter of the late James and Cora (Stevenson) Newton. She married Edward Schultz on March 21, 1950 at the Grace Episcopal Church,Defiance. Ed died in 1989. Helen had been a Defiance County Veteran's Service Officer for several years and an office worker at Defiance Metal Products, She was a Captain in the Air Force during World War Two serving as a dietitian in New Guinea and Manila. She was the organist at Grace Episcopal Church for 26 years. A music teacher, member of the Defiance County Retired Teachers Association, American Legion, VFW, Defiance Hospital Auxiliary, Kettenring Country club, Friends of the Defiance Public Library, Defiance Humane Society and the Defiance College Women's Commission Surviving is a niece Phyllis Spencer of Toledo, nephew Gordon Newton of Winchester, Va. and great nieces. Services will be 11:00 A:M Monday, Feb. 23, at the Grace Episcopal Church 308 2nd St. in Defiance. Officiating will be Steve Lee. Visitation will be from 10 -11 Monday, before the services at the church. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be by VFW Post # 3360. Arrangements were entrusted to the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home. Condolences may be left at defiancefuneralhome.com Memorials may be given to the church or to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
