Helen Rose Krumel, 88, of Defiance, passed away peacefully at 9:45 p.m., December 10, 2013, at Rosary Care Center, Sylvania, Ohio, surrounded by her family. She was born November 20, 1925, to Clara (Weber) and Christa Mack, of Ney. She married Donald Krumel on October 17, 1950, who survives. Mrs. Krumel was a 1943 graduate of Ney High School. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, of Defiance, and its Altar and Rosary Society. She was a beautician for 61 years and operated her own shop at their Wayne Avenue home for 50 years. She will always be remembered for her wonderful pies, cookies and cakes that she enjoyed baking. She also was a member of the S&P Pepper Club, Cotillion Club and the Lady's Study League of St. Marys. Other survivors include seven children: Mary (Stanley) Tumbleson of Fort Wayne, Charles (Beverly) Krumel of London, Ohio, James (Mary Beth) Krumel of Lima, David (Lucinda) Krumel, of Defiance, Diane (Sam) Affrin, of Tucson, Ariz., Marilyn (Stephen) Weber, of Sylvania, and Matthew (Denise) Krumel, of Perrysburg; a brother, Jonas (Margaret) Mack; two brothers-in-law, Earl (Florene) and Fred (Carmen) Krumel; a sister-in-law, Agnes Mack; seven nieces; seven nephews; 19 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Francis, Robert, Wilbur; two brothesr-in-law, Paul and Ralph Krumel; one sister-in-law, Delores Mack; and a grandson Blake Krumel. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Defiance, with Rev. John Stites officiating. Burial will be at Riverview Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home, Defiance. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rosary Care Center, of Sylvania, or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
