Helen J. Delventhal, 97, of Defiance, passed away at home surrounded by her loved ones on Sunday, July 5, 2026.

She was born on December 10, 1928 to the late William and Myrtle (Elliott) Hedrick in Defiance, Ohio. She was married to Nelson "Bud" Miler and Herbert Delventhal, who have both preceded her in death.

Helen was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who treasured her time with her family. She had a true passion for cooking and for over 35 years she was the head cook for Defiance College, Defiance Hospital, and Twin Rivers Nursing Home. In her leisure time she enjoyed Crossword and Word Search puzzles, and never missed her daily "Young and Restless". Helen will be greatly missed by her family and all who loved her.

Helen is survived by her loving children, David (Donna) Miler, Janet (Tom) Steel, Linda Hartzel, Connie Shaffer, and Lori Finkenbiner, She also leaves her stepchildren, Cindy Ann (Dennis) Long and Bruce Delventhal, son-in-law, Ray Long, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Cheryl Long, sisters, Mary "Toots" Jacoby and Leatha Jane, brothers, Wayne, Jim, Robert "Bud" and John Hedrick, son-in-law Larry Finkenbiner, two infant brothers and two grandsons.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will immediately follow at 12:30 pm at the funeral home, with Celebrant Deb Miller officiating.
