Helen M.C. Engel, 93, of Defiance passed away Saturday April 26, 2014 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice, Defiance.

She was born on May 4, 1920 in Hamler, Ohio to Carl and Emma (Helmke) Buenger. On December 10, 1950 she married Eugene Engel and he preceded her in death on August 13, 2001.

Helen was a homemaker and a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid Society. She enjoyed feeding the birds and rabbits that came to her yard.

She is survived by one daughter Kandi (Michael) Rasnake, grandchildren Vanessa Roehm and Adam Rasnake and a great-grandchild Taylem Rasnake, all of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

Also preceding her in death were her parents and one sister Loretta McDougle.

Visitation will be held Tuesday April 29, 2014 from 3-8 p.m. at the Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance.  The funeral service will be held Wednesday April 30, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at  the church with visitation one hour prior. The Reverend William Stottlemyer will be officiating.  Interment will follow at St. Stephen Lutheran Cemetery.
