Obituary

Harold Wayne Cavin, age 73 of Defiance, passed away at his home on Thursday, October 17, 2024. He was born on December 5, 1950 to the late Wilburn and Maudie (Valentine) Cavin in Pineville, Kentucky. Harold was a 1968 graduate of Lone Jack High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. On August 26, 1969 he married Barbara Belcher, who preceded him in death on July 5, 2023. Harold was a member of VFW #3360 and Moose Lodge #2094, and attended First Baptist Church in Defiance. He worked for 37 years at General Motors until his retirement. Harold enjoyed golf, fishing, and the mountains. He loved his dog, "Champion" and was an avid fan of the Kentucky Wildcats Basketball Team. He treasured his time spent with his family, especially with his grandkids. Harold will be greatly missed by his family and many good friends. Harold is survived by his children, Pamela (Joshua) Foss of Nappanee, IN and Michael (Sarah) Cavin of Defiance, his grandchildren, Andrea Cavin, Brandon Foss and Rayah Cavin, and great-granddaughter, Lessa Cavin. He also leaves behind his siblings, David (Marie) Cavin of Corbin, KY, Kenneth (Tina) Cavin of Defiance, Barbara Garrity of Paulding, Jean (Frank) Vaughn of Hawk Point, MO, Muriel (Terry) Collett of Nancy, KY, Sharon (Roy) Brock of Defiance, and Erma (Rick) Hoffman of Defiance, sister-in-law, Dee Winkler of North Ridgeville, OH, and brother-in-law, Ronnie Belcher of Defiance. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Cavin, brothers William and John Cavin, sister Thelma Beach, and sister-in-law Pebble Camp. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 from 10:30 am to 11:00 am at First Baptist Church in Defiance. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 am at the church, with Rev. Ron Monteith officiating. Military honors will follow conducted by VFW #3360.
