Gwendolyn "Gwen"  Layman, 81, of Defiance, passed away on  July 25, 2015 at the CHP Inpatient Hospice Center, Defiance, Ohio. She was born on February 26, 1934 to Adolph and Evelyn (Michael) Klima in Defiance, Ohio.  In 1949 she married John Layman. She was a member of The Defiance Church of the Brethren .Gwen previously worked at the Defiance Co. Senior Center and was a homemaker.  She was a wonderful mother. Gwen is survived by her loving spouse, John, Sr; sons John H (Amalia) Layman, Jr. of Hilo, Hawaii, Larry (Sallie) Layman of Phoenix, Arizona; daughters, Rebecca (Russell) Pfeifle of Woodland, California, Raye Ann Sanders of Columbus, Ohio, Francie (Marty) Bawden of Stockton, Utah, Beverlie (Randy) McCoy of Defiance, Ohio, 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Charles Conway Layman. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 29, 2015, 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home, Inc., Defiance, Ohio. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2015, 10:00 am at the funeral home, with Rev. Charles Schmunk, officiating. Burial will take place in the St. John Cemetery,Tiffin Twp.
