Gerald B. Coressel, Sr., 82, of Defiance, passed away on Friday afternoon, August 10, 2018 at his home in Defiance. He was born on May 9, 1936 to the late John and Ione (Bowers) Coressel in Defiance County, Ohio. Gerald proudly served our country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1954-1957. In 2003 he married Kathy (Turner) Coressel, who preceded him in death on April 30, 2014.

Gerald was a member of Moose #2094, AmVets #1991, Eagles #372, VFW #3360, and  Defiance American Legion #117. He worked for U.S. Marine Corp. Supply Center in Barstow, CA, Johns Manville in Riverside, CA, and Royal Air Craft in Riverside, CA. Gerald owned Jerry's Bar in Napoleon, worked as a Manager for Northtowne Estates and Royal Mart Cary Out in Defiance, retiring in 2000, and worked at Johns Manville in Defiance. Gerald enjoyed going to casinos, and loved to spend time with his dogs, Princess & Prinny. Gerald is survived by his daughters, Sonya Coressel and April Coressel both of Defiance, sons, Gerald  Coressel, Jr. and  David Coressel, both of Defiance, stepson, Joseph Thompson of Defiance, 23 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and daughter-in-law, Brenda Hurley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy Coressel, son, Eric Coressel, three grandchildren and sister, Tamra Hanna. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, August 17, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home, with Pastor George Fisher officiating.  Burial will follow the service at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery,  with graveside military honors provided by VFW #3360.
