Gerald C. "Jerry" Hurtt, 82, of Defiance, passed on to his God and Savior on Thursday, March 1, 2018. He was born in Defiance October 15, 1935 to the late Albert and Dorothy (Hammingway) Hurtt. He was a 1955 graduate of Defiance High School. On March 17, 1963 he married Christine Stetter of Bryan, OH. They have one son, Kenneth of Angola, Indiana. A daughter in law Tina and step granddaughter Brittany. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brothers: Donald and Frank, and in-laws Charles and Virginia Stetter. He leaves also a brother Tom, sister in law Peg and many other in laws, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Jerry was a member of the Defiance Christian Church. A Deacon at the church for many years, a member of the Defiance Eagles Drill and Degree team, life member of both the Eagles and the VFW of which he was on the Honor Guard team. An Army veteran. He was a member of the Eagles and church bowling teams. Jerry was a 22 gallon blood donor. He was an avid Cleveland Indians fan as well as the Browns, Ohio State, and Defiance Bulldogs. He loved playing cards and Dominos. He had worked as a tool maker for 43 years at S & K Hand Tools. Jerry also home delivered the Crescent News for the past 15 years. His funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 5 at the Defiance Christian Church 955 Standley Rd. Visitation will be from 3 - 8 p.m. Sunday at the church and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday prior to the services. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens where VFW Post # 3360 will conduct honorary military rites. Memorial donations may be sent to the Defiance Hospice Center, Defiance Christian Church, Defiance VFW # 3360, Defiance Eagles or the Defiance High School Athletic Association.
