Gary D. Smith, 63, of Defiance, passed away on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at his residence. He was born on December 24, 1951 to Dale and Geraldine (Patterson) Smith in Clyde, Ohio. Gary lived in Defiance for 18 years. He was very creative and enjoyed drawing. Gary also enjoyed fishing, gardening, and volunteered at the Fort Defiance Humane Society. Gary is survived by his daughter, Marianne (Danny) Urbina, son, Gerald (Ella) Smith, granddaughter, Kathlena Urbina, and former wife Mary Smith, all of Fremont, Ohio, brother, David T. Smith, and sister, Melissa Derringer, and special friend, Carmen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Geraldine Smith. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm on Monday, December 7, 2015 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance. A Memorial Service will follow at 12:30 pm at the funeral home, with Deacon Jeff Mayer officiating. Burial of ashes will be at McPherson Cemetery in Clyde, Ohio, at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Ft. Defiance Humane Society.
