Gary L. Reed, age 82 of Defiance, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday evening, March 10, 2024 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. He was born on November 18, 1941 to the late Gaylord and Ethel (Stettel) Reed in Defiance, Ohio. Gary was a 1960 graduate of Defiance High School. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1963 to 1969 as a Supply Sergeant. He was married for several years to his former wife Nadine Reed. On September 9, 1995 he married Donna (Hover) Reed, who survives.

Gary worked at Johns Manville for 40 years until his retirement in 2004. He was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing and gardening. Gary is survived by his loving wife Donna Reed of Defiance, his sons, Gary Reed II of Defiance, and Steven (Madison) Reed of Auburn, Indiana, with a grandson on the way, and his sister, Elaine Walters of Texas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Denise Eitniear, sister Debbie Ray, and stepmother, Mary Reed. Visitation will be held on Friday, 15, 2024 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm at the funeral home, with Celebrant Deb Miller officiating. Gary will be laid to rest at Riverview Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
