Obituary

Gary D. Bergman, 81, of New Bavaria Ohio, passed away on April 1st 2026 at a private residence.

Gary was born on October 5th, 1944 to Alva and Addie (Hasch) Bergman in Defiance, Ohio. He graduated from Fairview High School in 1963, and married Juanita Norrick in 1965. They were divorced and she now lives in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. He married Mary Bauer on May 22nd 1994, who preceded him in death on November 1, 2021. He was employed by Sauders Woodworking for many years until his retirement and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Defiance. He was a proud former member of the Sherwood Volunteer Fire Department. He loved living on his farm, fishing in the pond, and smoking his pipe, and loved his daily visits to his favorite restaurants, most recently Cosmos Restaurant in Defiance.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Bauer Bergman, brothers Eugene Bergman, Paul Michael Bergman, and Carroll Bergman, sister Roberta Slight, sisters-in-law Dolena Bergman and Leona Bergman and brother-in-law Jim Slight.

Gary is survived by his sons Tom (Tammy) Bergman and Tim (Kelli Bartel) Bergman, his stepdaughter Christina Bauer, and grandchildren Kyle (Hali) Bergman, Cory Bergman, Maria Bergman, Luke Bergman, Sophia Bergman, Ariana Bergman, Joel Morton, and Jade Morton, his twin brother Larry (Diann) Bergman, youngest brother Fred (Rita) Bergman, and sister-in-laws Ardie Bergman and Diana Bergman, and many nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday April 21st with visitation at 10am and Memorial Service at 11:00 am at St. John Lutheran Church, Defiance, Ohio, with Rev. Kurt Mews officiating. Luncheon will follow. Burial will take place at a later date in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in  Sherwood, OH.
