(Kirkendall) Scheuerman
October 16, 1921 – November 1, 2012
Garnita Scheuerman, 91, residing in Sandusky, formerly of Defiance, OH passed away Thursday, November 1, 2012 in Stein Hospice Center.
She was born October 16, 1921, in Continental, daughter of the late Harry "Mick" & Alpha (Wilser) Kirkendall. She married Vernon Scheuerman January 25, 1947 and he preceded her in death on August 18, 1979, Garnita graduated from Continental High School in 1939 and attended Bowling Green State University. She graduated in 1946 from St. Rita's Nursing School in Lima with a degree in nursing.
Garnita began her nursing career as a cadet at the Sioux Rosebud Indian reservation in Rosebud, South Dakota. She continued her career as a nurse in Paulding and Defiance Hospital. She ended her career working at Leisure Oaks nursing home.
Her success as a nurse was due to her compassion and caring. She was a good nurse and could relate to her patients' needs. Her work as a nurse was very satisfying for her.
In addition to nursing, she loved sewing, gardening and was always proud of her roses. She had been a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Defiance and attended Stephens United Church of Christ in Sandusky.
She leaves to cherish her memory, Kirk and Kathy Scheuerman of Palm City, Florida, Scott and Mary Jo (Scheuerman) Auble of Sandusky; 3 grandchildren; Kevin (Marius) Scheuerman of Norway, Keith (Jamie) Scheuerman of Stuart, Fla., Erin Auble of Miami, Fla., 1 great granddaughter Olivia Scheuerman and many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry "Mick" and Alpha Kirkendall, brother, Paul Kirkendall, sister, Juanita Walls, her husband, Vernon Scheuerman, and her granddaughter, Kristin Auble.
Funeral will be Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 10AM in the Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home, 529 Jefferson Ave. Defiance with Rev. Robert Jenks officiating. Family will receive friends on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 10am.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Defiance.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation, or to your favorite charity.
