Frieda E. Miller, 99 & 1/2 years old, of Defiance, passed away on Thursday,  February 12, 2015 at CHP Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center in Defiance, Ohio.

She was born on July 2, 1915 to Herbert and Alda (Driver) Gustin in South Scipio, Indiana. In February of 1938, she married John Frederick Miller.  Frieda and Fred lived in Defiance, Ohio.

She was a life member of St. John Lutheran Church where she was active in the Ladies Aid, the Ladies Auxiliary, LWML, and was a Sunday School teacher. Frieda was active at Good Samaritan School and the Childhood Conservation League. She was awarded Ohio Mother of the Year in the early 1960's and was a fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Frieda is survived by her children; James (Peggy) Miller of Defiance, OH, Jerry (Judy) Miller of Cape May, NJ, John (Jane) Miller of Madison, OH, Philip (Pat) Miller of Oregon, OH, Beth Miller of Defiance, OH, Barbara (Jim) Burgess of Westerville, OH, 14 Grandchildren, 25 Great-grandchildren, and her sister, Joy Ames of Bryan, OH.

She was preceded in death by parents, husband, J. Frederick Miller, daughter, Lisa Miller, siblings; Glenna Palmer, Gordon Gustin, Erma Bade, and Mary Ann Wingfield.

Visitation will be held Friday, February 13, 2015, 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home, Inc., Defiance, Ohio, and one hour prior to the services at the church.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2015, 11:00 am at St. John Lutheran Church, Defiance, Ohio, with Rev. Joshua Schmidt, officiating.

Burial will take place in the Riverside Cemetery.
