Fred E. Simmons, Jr., 87, of Defiance, passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2019 at Twin Rivers Care Center in Defiance. He was born on January 7, 1932 to the late Fred and Helen (Wirick) Simmons in Defiance. On June 25, 1955 he married Barbara Ann (Naveaux) Simmons, who preceded him in death in 2013. Fred was a member of  St. Mary Catholic Church. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Fred worked at Johns Manville for over 43 years until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of American Legion #117, and the Defiance Prop Floppers remote control airplane club. Fred is survived by his daughter, Jacquelyn (Tim) Hohenberger, grandchildren, Tawny Hohenberger and Timothy (Tiera) Hohenberger Jr., and a great-grandson, Harley Hohenberger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann Simmons, sisters, Loretta Florence and Sandy Smith, and brothers, Jim Simmons and Danny Simmons. A private service with military rites will be held at a later date, with Deacon Jeff Mayer officiating. Memorials are suggested to The American Cancer Society.
