Fred J. Olinghouse
Frederick J. Olinghouse, 93, of Defiance, passed away Monday, November 27th, 2017 at the Twin Rivers Care & Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in Lagrange County, Indiana on April 25, 1924, he was the son of the late Ray and Bertha (Bowen) Olinghouse.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church Napoleon Township.
Fred proudly served in the U.S. Navy in WW II.
On June 17, 1950 he married Elsie (Kammeyer) Olinghouse, who survives.
He had worked at B & H Trucking as a diesel mechanic and semi truck driver. He was a longtime Defiance Volunteer Fireman, a life member of the Defiance VFW and Legion. He enjoyed fishing, puzzles and mushroom hunting.
Fred will be missed by his wife of 67 years, Elsie,
daughters: Patricia (Stan) Coughlin of Findlay, Trenda (Keith) Stiebling of Defiance
sons: Frederick (Kathi) Olinghouse of Hillsdale, MI, Blane (Lori) Olinghouse of Defiance,
a sister: Mary Schlabaugh of Goshen, Indiana.
He is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Christopher Coughlin, Sara (Brian) Reidinger, Cassi (Matt) Verhoff, Kyle (Rosie) Kroeckel, Ashley (John) Busccca, Lauren Olinghouse and Jessica (Travis) Fry and 11 great grandchildren.
Fred was preceded in death by sisters: Hellon (Vernon) Fisher, Edna (Harold) Yoder, Margaret (Dale) Reynolds, Mildred (Woodrow) Hostettler, Barbara (Bob) Duling, a brother Handley (Ruth) Olinghouse and a grandson Blane Joseph Olinghouse.
Services at the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home 1753 S. Clinton St. Defiance at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 1st.
Visitation is Thursday 4-8 p.m. and Friday from 10-11, an hour before the services at Lawson-Roessner. A Fireman's walkby will be at 7:00 Thursday.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery where VFW Post #3360 will conduct honorary military graveside rites. Suggested memorials are to St. Paul Lutheran Church Napoleon Township.
