Obituary

Fred Behringer, 86, of Defiance, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, February 4, 2018. His loving family was here to support him through all his illness. He was born in Defiance to the late Charles and Edythe (Roop) Behringer on December 14, 1931. Fred graduated from D.H.S. in 1949. He was very proud of his class of '49'ers as they accomplished a lot bringing special entertainment to Defiance. After two years of college he joined the Marines where he saw a lot of Europe and South America while being stationed on a ship. The day he was discharged he had a date with Betty Bilderback and they married a few months later. After 63 years of marriage he still said, "She is the best thing that ever happened to me." Fred worked for Prudential, Manville, had the Quick Stop Party Shop and after 20 years as a quality supervisor at G.M. retired in 1990. Fred served as a Defiance councilman-at-large for 10 years beginning in 1973. After retiring from council he continued his interest always voicing his opinion in the best interest of the community. Being an avid golfer, he belonged to Auglaize Golf Course and Majestic Golf Course in Florida. Other memberships were the V.F.W., Legion, Elks and he drove for the Cancer Society. Fred loved to play practical jokes. His great sense of humor never failed - even when he was hospitalized, he joked with the doctors and nurses. Fred is survived by his beloved wife Betty, loving children: Lori Behringer of Toledo, Mike Behringer of Coldwater, MI. Lisa Steinberger of Louisville, KY. Matt (Sheana) Behringer of Defiance, Fred (Cathy) Behringer II of Defiance, a sister Jane Brindle of Toledo and 12 dear grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
