Obituary

Franklin James Toth, 82, of Defiance, passed away on  Monday, June 9, 2014 at Mercy St.Vincent's Medical Center, Toledo.

He was born on April 18, 1932 to Alex and Irene (Kovach) Toth in North Baltimore, OH.  On July 31, 1965 he married Lois (Hanke) Toth.  They were married 48 and one half years.

Franklin is a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Defiance.  He was a graduate of North Baltimore High School Class of 1950 where he played the saxophone in the marching band among other activities.

In 1955 he joined the US Army 8th Infantry Golden Arrow Division.  His title was Specialist 3 and he served until 1957.  Franklin worked for the Campbell Soup Company retiring after 39 years and 1 month.  Franklin enjoyed traveling on his motorcycle across the United States with his wife and friends.  He also bowled in the Henry County Men's Bowling Leagues.

He is a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather of his son David (Robin Wilson) Toth of Ottawa, OH, a daughter Marilyn (Michael) Shoup of Defiance, grandchildren,

Christina (Shawn) Triplett of Montpelier, OH, Joshua Toth of Bowling Green, OH, Ryan Toth of Cincinnati, OH, Michael Swagger of Columbus, OH,  Brandon Wilson of Ottawa, OH, Haley Wilson of Napoleon, OH and Cody Hunt of Ottawa, OH, great grandchildren, Alicia & Mason,  & Dakota Rau of Montpelier, OH, Noah  Wilson of Napoleon, OH, Ross and Lilly Wilson of Ottawa, OH, and Silvia Swagger of Columbus, OH.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lois M. Toth, a son, Daniel Lee Toth, his brother, Joseph Toth and a sister, Margerite Lentz.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2014 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2014, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, rural Defiance with Rev. Robbie Ketcham officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Mark Lutheran Cemetery where military graveside rites will be accorded by VFW Post 3360.

The family request memorials be directed to the American Red Cross or to family wishes.
