Frank "Curly" Rakes, 78, of Defiance, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2015, at CHP Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center in Defiance, Ohio.

He was born on August 14, 1936 to Sherman and Perlina (Lambert) Rakes in Gill, West Virginia. He married Virgie Farris on January 21, 1956 in Chapmanvile, West Virginia.

Frank is survived by his devoted wife, Virgie, three loving children, Brenda (Steve) Westrick of Defiance, Gary Rakes, and Deb (John) Schink of Napoleon, four adoring grandchildren, Joe (Natalie) Rakes of Napoleon, Alicia (Nate) Holbrook of Defiance, Miranda Schink and Michaela Seibel of Napoleon, eight precious great-grandchildren, one sister, Madge (Cliff) Nally, and two brothers, Arnold (Linda) Rakes and Ernest (Trudy) Rakes, all of Defiance.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and two sisters.

Frank retired in 1980 from General Motors in Defiance. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and golfing, and loved the Cleveland Indians and Browns.

Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, and from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, March 23, 2015 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Visitors can call at noon on Tuesday, with services at 1:00 pm at Church of Christ in Defiance, with Evangelist Lonnie Lambert officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Defiance.

The family requests memorials be directed to a charity of the donors choice.
