Frank H. Hawk Franklin "Frank" H. Hawk, 86, of Defiance, passed away Thursday, March 17th, 2011 at Twin Rivers Nursing Care Center. He was born in Fremont, Ohio on February 12, 1925, he was the son of the late Howard and Mathilda (Gabel) Hawk. He married Elizabeth "Betty" (Brabant) Hawk Sept. 3, 1945 and she died May 3, 2009. Frank was awarded to be in the Northwest Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame. He volunteered for over 20 years at all three Defiance Nursing home activities programs, four days a week. He played music, read, played cards, held Bible and prayer services. Frank became legally blind in 1962 at age 37 from glaucoma. He then worked as a machinist at SK Wayne - Tool Co. Dresser Industries from 1966 to 1980. He had also worked on pipe organs, studied voice, had been a choir director, and engineer at Toledo Central Catholic High School. Frank and his wife, Betty, were active in volunteer work most of their life. He was a graduate of Fremont St. Joseph's High School. Frank was a member and lay minister of St. John Catholic church. He was also a member of the Northwesternaires Barbershop chorus. Surviving are Daughters: Mary (James) Wagner of state of Florida, Marjorie (Ronald) Eberly of Defiance, Sylvia Soto of Bryan, Jean (Robert) Simpson of Paulding, Virginia (Paul) Cloud of Oklahoma City. Son: John (Debbie) Hawk of Maryville Tenn. Sisters: Joanne Young of Fremont and Martha (Carl) Unger of Texas. Six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister: Mary Dicesare and two brothers: James and Donald Hawk. Services are 11:00 A:M next Friday, March 25, at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home, Defiance, with Father Todd Dominique officiating. Visitation will be next week, 5-8 Thursday, March 24, 2011 and 10-11 Friday before services at Lawson-Roessner. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
