Frank Gudakunst Franklin 'Junior' Gudakunst, 90, of Defiance, passed away December 22, 2017 at Blake Medical Center in Bradenton, FL. Frank was born in Fostoria, OH on Oct. 1, 1927 to the late Forest Franklin Gudakunst and Ada Vivian Strohl. He attended Grover Hill High School. He was raised by his grandparents Frank S. and Adeline McClure Gudakunst. He married Marilyn Fickel on Oct. 29, 1974 and she survives in Defiance. They were married 43 years. Frank was veteran of the Army Air Force. He was a member of Local 211 and was a garage mechanic at GM for 26 years. He had a garage in Ottoville, worked at Etter Ford in Continental and was co-owner of G&F Garage in Kalida and Tank Depot in Lima. In the 60's he was involved in race cars and a pick-up truck called The Cottonpicker. He raced at Allentown in Lima and Landeck Speedways. He liked to take things apart and see what made it work. He was great guy and was loved by many friends and neighbors in Ohio and Florida. Frank is also survived by his children, Gary Gudakunst of Ottoville, Janice Gudakunst of Ottoville, Susan Grime of Van Wert, 10 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and a great great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a son Paul and a great grandson. He had 5 sisters: Mary Ruth (Carl) Wagner of Ada, Catherine (Ralph) High of Lima, Phyllis (David) Lytle of Lima, Colleen (Dan) Binkley of Cridersville, Fern (James) Cowan of Lima and a brother Donald (Linda) Gudakunst of Lima. He was Life member of the Jewel American Legion 635, Defiance VFW #3360, Defiance Moose Lodge 2094, Defiance Elks #147, Defiance AMVETS 1991 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles 372 in Defiance. He loved garage sales, flea markets, NASCAR and boating. His memorial service is 11:00 Saturday, June 2, 2018 at the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home 1753 S. Clinton St. Defiance.
