Obituary

Floyd O. Melia, 77, of Defiance, passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at the CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center.

He was born on February 26, 1935 to George and Alta (Weller) Melia in Cecil, OH. He married Jeannette Sontchi on June 17, 1961, and she survives. Also surviving him are his daughters, Laura (Tom) Weaver and Lisa Beardsley, both of Defiance, grandchildren, Leisha (Chris) VanGunten, Kacey (Matt) Hampton, Nick (Shauna) Beardsley and Travis Beardsley, great grandchildren, Piper & Prynn Hampton and Ellie Beardsley, brothers, D.G. "Toad" Melia of Continental, and Noel "Butch" Melia of Rome City, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Gina Melia, a brother, Donald Melia, and sisters, Waneta Melia and Anna Belle Schroeder.

Floyd was a member of St Paul Lutheran Church, and the Eagles BPOE 372. He began his career at age 16 working for the National Memorial Stone Company before becoming co-owner of Defiance Memorials in 1974 and retiring in 1998.

Visitation will be held Thursday, December 20, 2012 from 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home & Friday, December 21, 2012 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am prior to the services at the church .

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 21, 2012, at 11:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. David Brobston officiating.

Burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center, St Paul Lutheran Church, and/or to the Filling Home of Mercy.
