Florence E. Bower, 88, of Defiance, passed away on  Monday, June 1, 2015 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center of Defiance, Ohio. She was born on September 24, 1926 to William and LaVern (Cottrel) Hammons in Defiance, Ohio. On September 2, 1948 she married Ivan R. Bower, who proceeded her in death in 2001. Florence was a lady who hardly spoke a word, but would always say "thank you" to anyone who would do the smallest thing for her - even her kids. She was very strong and if she didn't want to do something, you weren't going to change her mind.  She was a gentle, kind, and sweet person who loved her husband, kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, brothers and sisters. She tried to teach her kids the same morals and ethics that she always lived by. She was married to the same man for 52 years. They were together until his passing in 2001. Florence had the the prettiest blue eyes and amazing smile! She is now with Dad and the rest of the group, looking down with her blue eyes and the biggest smile. Florence is survived by her daughters, Judy Bower and Helen Finch, sons, Dale (Connie) Bower and Scott Bower, all of Defiance, 5 Grandchildren, Heather, Roy, Rich, Jason, and Jeff, 8 Great-grandchildren, Addison, Haley, Mercedes, Alex, Austin, Jayden, Emily, and Angel. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ivan Bower, Sr., sons, Roy Bower, Jim Bower, and Ivan Bower, Jr., sisters, Eileen Shawver, Eunice Wolff, Marilyn Black, and Velma in infancy, brothers, Donald Hammons, Fred Hammons, and Robert Hammons. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 5, 2015 at the funeral home, with Rev. Janet Strickland officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Defiance. Memorials are suggested to CHP Defiance Area Hospice Center, or Conquer Childhood Cancer.
