Everardo "Lalo" Hernandez, age 72 of Defiance, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

He was born in Brownsville, Texas on July 20, 1953 to the late Marcos and Josefa (Garcia) Hernandez. Everardo proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1972-1974. On July 20, 2002 he married Sandra Lopez who survives.

Lalo worked at General Motors in Defiance for over 25 years until his retirement in 2002. He was a member of Defiance VFW #3360 and AmVets Post #1991. Lalo was a proud, life-long fan of the NY Giants and The Ohio State Buckeyes. He enjoyed working on cars, playing guitar, woodworking, playing chess, and watching football. Lalo never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone in need. He was occasionally argumentative, but he communicated his point effectively. Lalo will be greatly missed by his family and many good friends.

Everardo is survived by his loving wife, Sandy Hernandez of Defiance, and his children, Tina (Jeremy) Knisley of Leipsic, Emerald (Dan) Parra of Columbus, Dion (Halle) Hernandez of Findlay, Marcos Hernandez of Defiance, and Rocky (Danell) Hernandez of Columbus. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Lyric, Charlie, Quentin, Porter, Tres, Miles, and Nayeli, his brothers, Erasmo, Marcos and Ishmael and sisters, Irma and Elida.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Enrique and Juan Hernandez, sisters Elena and Elvira, sister-in-law, Diana Hernandez, and granddaughter, Mika Hernandez.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Schaffer Funeral Home was honored to assist the family with arrangements.
