Obituary

Evelyn Marie Jones, age 79 of Defiance, peacefully passed on Monday, September 7, 2026 at CHP Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center, surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born in Saginaw, Michigan on May 24, 1947 to the late Carl and Irene (Wilber) Bremer and was a graduate of Bridgeport High School. On August 27, 1988 she married David Jones who survives.

Evelyn worked at St. Luke’s Hospital for several years before moving to Defiance, where she enjoyed her time spent working at Meijer: making friends, sharing laughs, and provided an enjoyable shopping experience. She loved cooking, baking, gardening, arts and crafts, and getting together with her family and friends for fun conversations and deep laughs. Christmas was her favorite holiday of the year, throwing a cookie exchange party with her sisters and friends. Evelyn was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be deeply missed by her family and many good friends.

Evelyn is survived by her loving husband David Jones of Defiance, her children: Christopher Jones, Ronnie (Sarah) Jones, and Elizabeth (Curtis Smith) Barker. She also leaves behind six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, her brother Arthur (Sheryl) Bremer, her loveable canine friend Suki, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers: Jim, Tom and Ed Bremer; four sisters: Helen Lash, Marian Lingle, Cathy Zimmer and Pat LaPan; and loyal canine friend Max.

Special thanks to the Defiance Fire & EMS, and the staffs of Defiance and Toledo ProMedica Hospital, and CHP Hospice Center for their special care and compassion.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Defiance Eagles. Schaffer Funeral Home was honored to assist the family with arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer Research or Fort Defiance Humane Society.
