Eugene F. Meyer Eugene F. "Farmer" Meyer, 69, of Sherwood, Oh passed away Monday, March 28th, 2011 in a fire at his home. He was born in Antwerp, Ohio on August 22, 1941, he was the son of the late Joseph F. and Edna M. (Reinhart) Meyer. He married Sharon Dirr, June 13, 1964 and she survives. He worked as a millwright at G.M. Central Foundry/Powertrain , retiring in 2003. He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, the Bend. A 1960 graduate of Defiance High School. An Army veteran and very involved in the Defiance AM VETS Post 1991 where he was a past commander, AM VETS 9th District past commander, NEC Hospitality coordinator, current AM VETS National Provost Marshall and AM VETS State and National Sad Sacks Saddest. He was also a member of the Defiance Eagles, Knights of Columbus, VFW, DAV and Moose. Gene was a volunteer driver for the Defiance County Veterans Office taking veterans to hospitals and medical appointments. Besides his wife Sharon, surviving are Daughter: Francine Meyer and fiancé Paul Drasutia and children Rachael (Rae) Joshua and Andrew, of Defiance. Three sons: Mark (Melissa) Meyer and children Amanda, Morgan, Madison and Maxwell of Westminster, MD. Tony (Terri) Meyer and children Chase Meyer, Nick and Justin Guelde of Sherwood. Matt (Novell) Meyer and daughter K. Isabelle of Sherwood. Sisters: Sister Julaine Meyer C.S.A. of Fond du Lac, Wis., Agnes (James) Timbrook of Defiance Brother: Don (Clara) Meyer of Defiance. Preceded in death by a sister Ann Meyer and his parents. . A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at at St. John Catholic Church, Defiance, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 2nd, with a luncheon served at the church after services. Visitation will be Thursday 2-7:30 and Friday 2-7:30 at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home 1753 S. Clinton St. Defiance, Ohio 43512. There is a vigil service at 7:30 Thursday and an AM VETS service at 7:30 Friday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery where VFW Post # 3360 will conduct honorary military rites.
