Ernest "Ernie" Gonzalez, age 53 of Defiance, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday evening, July 9, 2023 at his home in Defiance. He was born in Robstown, Texas on September 22, 1969 to the late Arturo and Isabelle (Garza) Cuellar. Ernie worked as a welder for several years. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and The Ohio State Buckeyes. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Ernie is survived by his children; Austin Gonzalez of Defiance, Matthew Tyler Williams of Toledo, OH, and Kelsie Gonzalez of Defiance, four grandchildren, three brothers; Henry and Joe Gonzalez, and Fred Cuellar, his sister, Cindy Cobb, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arturo and Isabelle Cuellar. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Memorials are suggested to the family to assist with expenses, c/o Austin Gonzalez.
