Elvira Gonzales, 86, formerly of Defiance, passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2015, surrounded by her family at her home in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
She was born on April 30, 1929 in LaGrulla, Texas to Filomena (Rodriguez) and Tristan Trevino, Sr. In 1952 she married Arturo Gonzales, Sr., who proceeded her in death in February, 1988. Elvira loved gardening and roses. She was a fabulous cook, and she enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. Elvira loved to spoil her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Elvira is survived by her five children, Arturo (Jacki) Gonzales, Jr., of Defiance, Anna (John) Griffin of Sumter, South Carolina, Jesse (Becky) Gonzales and Joseph Gonzales, all of Huntington, Indiana, and Filomena (Randy) Gatewood of Jonesboro, Arkansas, 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, sisters, Elba Gomez and Evelia Soliz, brothers, Jesus Trevino and Tristan Trevino, Jr.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arturo Gonzales, Sr., sister Elfida Cortez, brothers, Andres Trevino, Arnold Trevino, Sr., and Tristan Trevino in infancy.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 6:00 pm on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, with a Vigil Service at 3:00 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, August 14, 2015 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Defiance, with Fr. Randy Giesige officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Memory Gardens.
