Obituary

Elvin "Al" Greear, 86 , of Defiance, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

He was born on October 21, 1930 to Robert and Callie (Donelson) Greear  in Scott County, Virginia. In 1950 he married Eula Faye (Poston) Greear, who preceded him in death in 2003.

Elvin worked at General Motors in Defiance for 37 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of UAW #211 Retirees, and St. Mike's Golf Course. He was an avid golfer, and a huge fan of the Cleveland Indians and Ohio State Buckeyes.  He loved spending his winters in Florida for the past nine years.

Elvin will be sadly missed by his sons, Roger (Betty) Greear of Sherwood, Jack (Diane) Greear of Ayersville, daughters, Cathy (Dan) Arman of Leesburg, Florida, Char (Chris) Williams of Defiance, and Cheryl Fedderke of Defiance, 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, granddog, Misty, sisters, Jean (Mack) Girlie of Dover, Tennessee, and Shirley Lewis of Defiance.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Eula Faye Greear, sisters, Gail Carico, Opal Jones, Virginia Greear, and Peggy Quillen, and brothers, Colin and  Lester Greear.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, December 9, 2016 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Schaffer Funeral Home, with Rev. Benjamin Polzin officiating. Burial will follow at Sherwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials are suggested to CHP Defiance Area Hospice Center.
