Elverta Elizabeth Grussing, 100, of Defiance, passed away on June 14, 2014 at Glenn Park in Defiance, OH.

She was born on August 28, 1913 to Eugene and Elizabeth (Herbert) Hasselschwert in Defiance, OH. On June 1st, 1934, she married Robert C. Grussing. They lived together on a farm in Defiance county until Robert's death on June 28, 1979.

Elverta was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and cooked for the Service Guild for over 50 years. Her church was very important to her. She also loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She spent winters in Florida with her daughter, enjoyed traveling, reading, and also enjoyed canning the vegetables she grew in her garden.

Elverta is survived by her, daughters Marilyn (Dean) Purdy of Ann Arbor, MI & Sharon (Lowell) Ricker of Defiance, OH, daughter-in-law, Carolyn Grussing of Bay City, MI, grandchildren, Deborah (Jim) Winter, Dianna (Rob) Carlson, Douglas (Alyson) Purdy, Dawn (Mike) Vozar, Julie Sasseen, Todd (Margie) Grussing, Jim (Aloma) Ricker, Stephen Grussing, Beth (David) Kippert, Amy (Dennis) Kimpel, sisters, Veronica Hicks & Ruth Fritz, brother, Virgil "Bud" Hasselschwert, and 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, David Grussing, and a grandson-in-law, Daniel Sasseen.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 17, 2014 from 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home, Inc., Defiance, Ohio, and one hour prior to the services at the church.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at 11:00 am at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with Rev. David Brobston, officiating.

Entombment will take place in the Riverview Memory Gardens.
