Elizabeth Jane Miller, age 93, of Defiance OH, passed away at 4:40 p.m., Monday, April 30, 2012, at the CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center . She was born in Fostoria OH on August 9, 1918,the daughter of the late Arthur and Ora (Henning) Sowers. On July 31, 1936, she married Richard Carl Miller, who died May 15, 2007. Elizabeth was an employee of Deluxe Dry Cleaners over thirty years and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Eleanor Householder, Dorothy Chaplin, and Jean Steyer. She was a member of Good Shepherd of the Deaf Lutheran Church in Toledo OH. She was a longtime participant in the church and its Bible study group up to the time of her death. Elizabeth believed and trusted in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She lived her faith earnestly according to the tenets of her own devout parents. As a person who was deaf from birth, she used her disability as a way of being an example of good will and personal strength to her family and friends. She was a member of the Lima Silents Aid Society, the Ohio Association of the Deaf, the Ohio School of Deaf Alumni Association, and the National Fraternal Society of the Deaf. She is survived by three sons, Robert H. (Diane) of Louisville KY, Richard C. Jr. (DeeAnn) of Leroy, IL, and Arthur R. (Dixie) of Defiance OH. One son, John A., is deceased. Also surviving are seven grandchildren. Becky Miller, Rachel Haidari, Amy Bordogna, Douglas Miller, Shawn Miller, Steven Miller, and Lisa Crowe. Two grandchildren, Tracy Miller and John Miller, are deceased. She is also survived by eighteen great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. Religious services will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 4, 2012, in the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home at 1753 S. Clinton St., Defiance, OH. Officiating will be Pastor Shirrel Petzoldt and Pastor Denny Hunter. Friends are invited to call at 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday and an hour before services at the funeral home. Interment will be at Riverview Memory Gardens. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Ohio Association of the Deaf or the CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
