Eldene Mary Lieb, 90, entered into the eternal presence of her Lord on March 30, 2026 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

Born on October 12, 1935 and raised in Holgate, Ohio, she was the daughter of Don and Irene (Ashbacher) Ricker. Her degree as a registered nurse was earned from the Toledo Hospital School of Nursing. Compassionate care was provided to her patients at the Defiance Hospital, Defiance Clinic, several doctor's offices, and the Defiance County Health Department as a public health nurse, supervisor, and Director of Nurses.

Among those beloved by Eldene who remain are daughters, Cindy (Ron) Bassous and Michelle Lieb of Defiance, grandchildren, Dani Bassous of Wabash, Indiana and Nate Bassous of Defiance, sister Donna Sullivan, brother Lowell (Sharon) Ricker, sister-in-law Helen Lieb, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, nephew Terry Sanders, and nephew-in-law Dan Sasseen.

Eldene's devotion to God took precedence in her life and was reflected in her concern for others. She faithfully prayed for those with needs, and was a co-leader of the Bethel Christian Church prayer chain. Organizations with which she volunteered were Hospice and its auxiliary, the Defiance Senior Center R&R program, Island Parkway Manor as a Trustee, and the Crisis Pregnancy Center as a board member.

Wisdom and a witty sense of humor were traits that endeared Eldene to those blessed to know her. She took pleasure in reading, traveling, flower gardening, and family gatherings. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home, with Pastor Christopher Baker officiating. Eldene will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery.
