Obituary

Elaine M. "Pat" (Rollins) Knipp died August 21, 2013 at CHP Defiance Area Hospice Inpatient Center, Defiance, OH.  Elaine was born August 25, 1919 near Defiance to James A. and Mildred (Chaney) Rollins.  On July 10, 1940 she married Donald A. Knipp, former Defiance City official, who died September 29, 1991.

Elaine was a lifelong resident of Defiance County, graduating in 1937 from Defiance High School.  She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church for over seventy years and was an active volunteer. She was a member of the Defiance American Legion #117 Auxiliary.  Elaine worked as a legal secretary during WWII and later retired from Defiance Structural Steel after twenty years of service.

Devoted to her family, she was a loving mother and grandmother and loved planning family dinners and baking cookies for all to enjoy.  She traveled overseas on many trips with her husband of fifty-one years and especially enjoyed their trips to Spain, France, and the Holy Lands and in later years traveled with her family on vacations to Alaska and North Carolina.  Her hobbies included the study of antiques, a hybrid rose garden, and needlecrafts, most particularly, smocking.

She is survived by a son, Donald L. (Dianne) Knipp of Wapakoneta, OH, a daughter, Pamela S. (Thomas) Kime of Defiance, a grandson, Aaron A. (Maria) Kime of Hamilton, OH, a granddaughter Kathryn E. (Joseph) Webb of Defiance, six great-grandchildren; Chloe, William, Andrew Kime, Luke, Isaac (Ike), and Eliza Webb.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Violet Rollins Sanders, and an infant brother, Richard.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, August 25, 2013 from 4pm – 8pm in Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.  Funeral services will be on Monday, August 26, 2013 at 10:00 am in St. John Lutheran Church, Defiance, with Rev. Donald Luhring officiating.  Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Defiance.

Memorials may be made in Elaine's memory to St. John Lutheran Church, or CHP Defiance Area Hospice Inpatient Center.
