Eileen M. Chaney, 93, of Defiance, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2016 at Kingsbury Place in Defiance.

She was born on October 18, 1922 to Cecil and Iva (Spitler) Rhoad in Bloom Township, Ohio. On June 10, 1945 she married William O. Chaney, who preceded her in death on September 7, 2014.

She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Defiance. Eileen was a teacher for 32 1/2 years, and taught  at Defiance City Schools for 14 years, retiring in 1983. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, ORTA, AAUW, Defiance Co. Retired Teachers Association, and the American Red Cross..

Eileen is survived by her son, Gary Chaney of Sherwood, daughters, Coleen (James) Vincent of Omaha, Nebraska, Deanna (Timothy) Smith of Osseo, Michigan, and Carol (William) Halstead of Ontario,Canada,   6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and brother, Richard Rhoad of Westerville, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Iva  and Cecil Rhoad, and husband, William O.Chaney.

There will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at St. John United Church of Christ in Defiance.
