(Devers) Grimes
May 28, 1921 – May 11, 2013
Edith L (Devers) Grimes is finally home and resting in the loving arms of Jesus. Her journey home started May 28, 1921 and ended 91 years 11 months and 13 days later on Saturday, May 11, 2013. Preceding her on the way was her father and mother, Elmer and Stella (Keck) Devers, her loving husband Verlin Grimes, her sisters Donna in infancy, Irene (Mott) Bashore, Helen Bissell, and Ruby Zartman, and her brothers, Ronald (Tuffy), Roy, Paul (Ray), Charles (Chuck), James (Pete), and Herb Devers.
Those remaining to celebrate her life as well as remember her many letters of encouragement and laughter are her many friends and family of two brothers, Glenn (Nick) Devers of Piqua, OH and Richard (Dick) Devers of Cleveland, Oh, two sisters, Dene (Carter) Wilson of Port Charlotte, FL and Norma Jean (Peg) Brown of Anacortes, WA, as well as her children, Nancy (Dave) Druley of St. Louis, MO, Barbara (Bill) Harader of Cape Coral, FL., Bill (Margaret) Grimes of Defiance, her eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and her two great-great grandsons.
Edith was a long time member of the Zion United Methodist Church of Grover Hill, the Cornerstone Church of God, and the First Church of God on Carter Road. Her works in the church and in life were many and varied. But from starting as a nursemaid and cleaning girl at the age of 13 for her grandfather, owning a restaurant, to retiring as a licensed practical nurse at the Paulding Hospital, she was faithful and persistent All who knew her were touched in a special way.
Visitation will be at the Schaffer Funeral Home on Friday, May 17 from 3-7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
A homecoming celebration and memorial service will be held at the First Church of God on Carter Road on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Rick Rufenacht officiating.
Burial will be in Sherman Cemetery.
