Edie S. Mekus, 50, of Defiance, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Defiance Promedica  Regional Hospital.

She was born on October 18, 1966 to Waverly and Shirley (Warren) McCoy in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She enjoyed beaches, camping, and anything outdoors. Edie loved to attend her grandchildren's events.

Edie leaves behind her father, Waverly McCoy of Virginia Beach, Virginia, daughters, Whitney Mekus of Defiance,  and Haley Mekus of Ottawa, four  grandchildren; Jorge Aguilar II, Layah Pike, Rilee Girardot, and Remington Landwehr, brother, Eddie McCoy of Virginia Beach, Virginia, sisters, Robin Honrine of Powhatan, Virginia, Carmen Bertram of Bumpass, Virginia, and Leslie McCoy of West Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley McCoy, and brother, Jimmy.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at Schaffer Funeral Home, with Pastor Ronald Hofacker officiating.

Memorials are suggested to the family to assist with expenses.
