Obituary

Dorpha M. Bok Dorpha M. (Hickok) Bok, 88, of Defiance, died peacefully, Friday, October 30th, 2009 in her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Defiance on June 1, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Hiram and Effie (Nicely) Hickok. She worked as a government inspector during World War Two. She also spent 13 years as a school teacher at St. John Lutheran School and was a member of the SJL Ladies and Stephen Ministries. After her retirement she worked as the assistant State Director of AARP and was actively involved in the Retired Teachers Association. She was a 1939 graduate of Defiance High School and a graduate of Defiance College. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and it's Senior Choir for over 60 years. She was married in Defiance, to Joseph Bok, on August 20, 1944 and celebrated her 65th wedding anniversary this year. Surviving are her husband: Joseph Bok, her two sons: Rev. Vern (Donell) Bok of Seven Hills, Oh. Marvin (Jan) Bok of Auburn, Ind. a daughter: Marilynn (Steve) Buchholz of Defiance, two sisters: her identical twin Delpha Hoffman of Defiance and Donelda McWilliams of Defiance, 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, a brother Floyd Hickok and a sister Viola Hickok. Services 2:00 Monday, Nov. 2, at St. John Lutheran Church with Rev. Donald Luhring officiating. Friends are invited to call Sunday 2-8 at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home and Monday 1-2 at the church. Entombment in Riverview Memory Gardens mausoleum. Suggested memorials are to the St. John Lutheran Church Choir or Defiance Area Hospice.
