Obituary

Dorothy Emma Roehrs, 97, of Defiance, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at the Laurels of Defiance.

She was born on September 28, 1917 to John and Emma (Brinck) Rahmer in Sherwood, Ohio. In 1938 she married Reinhart H. Roehrs, who proceeded her in death in June, 1984.

Dorothy was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Defiance. She was active in the Ladies Auxiliary and Guilding Group. Dorothy owned and operated her own beauty shop, Dorothy Roehrs' Beauty Shop, at 1137 Wayne Avenue and 1240 Grove Street in Defiance for over 30 years, retiring  in 1980. She was an avid collector of antiques and she and her husband had a shop called Roehrs' Antiques in their home. Her interests and hobbies included sewing, crocheting, quilting, oil painting and gardening. She was known for the many quilts she helped design and make for St. John Lutheran Church.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Regina (Carl) Snyder of Defiance, Diana Kunkel of Stratford, Connecticut, Pauline (Dan) Baker of Bismarck, North Dakota, 7 Grandchildren; Douglas Snyder, Gretchen Snyder Schmitz, Ann Kunkel Rowan, Jody Kunkel McLean, Ellen Kunkel Dion, Danna Baker Fitterer, Paula Baker Prince, 12 Great-grandchildren, and 3 Step Great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Emma Rahmer, husband, Reinhart H. Roehrs, brother, Glen Rahmer, sisters, Margaret Bergman,  Effie Knox Krill, Erma Greenler, Virginia Wolfe, Vivian Eschhofen, and Lola Rahmer in infancy.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 pm on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, with viewing one hour prior to services on Monday, January 19, 2015 at St. John Lutheran Church, Defiance ,Ohio, with Pastor Donald Luhring, officiating. Burial will take place in the Riverside Cemetery.
