Dorothy F. Kohout, age 97, of Sylvania, formerly of Defiance, died Wednesday, September 14, 2011, in her home.
She was born June 25, 1914 in Defiance, the daughter of Edward & Anna (Steffel) Kehnast.
She graduated from St. John's Commercial in 1929. She married Raymond Kohout in 1939. He died in 1991.
Dorothy was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church in Toledo, and the Altar & Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Catholic Ladies of Columbia, council #32. She worked about 20 years at the former Agricultural Stabilization & Conservation services in Defiance, retiring in 1974.
Surviving is her daughter, Jean (Daniel) Meyer and daughter-in-law, Lois Kohout; two step granddaughters - Valerie and Melanie; four grandsons - Shane (Anna) Meyer, Joshua (Deidre) Meyer, Russ (Renee) Spiess, and Chad (Brenda) Spiess; great-grandchildren - Ethan, Dylann, & Reaghan Meyer, and Rachel & Ryan Spiess; and a sister-in-law, Mary Kohout.
Dorothy was a very loving grandmother and "GG" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death in addition to her husband and parents were infant daughter, Elizabeth Ann; son Roger; brothers - Lawrence, Donald & Robert Kehnast and sisters - Virginia Jacob and Imelda Moninger.
Visitation will be on Sunday, September 18, from 2:00-5:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home at 1753 S. Clinton St. in Defiance. There will be a Scripture Service at 4:00 p.m. There will also be visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 19, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Defiance, preceding the 11:00 a.m. Mass of Resurrection celebrating Dorothy's life. Mass celebrant will be Father Joe Steinbauer. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ebeid Hospice Residence in Sylvania, or the Seeds of Faith fund at Little Flower Church in Toledo.
