Obituary

DOROTHY MARIE CHASE, age 95, of Defiance, died September 17, 2012.

Dorothy was born in Defiance County April 17, 1917 to the late Rev. Jay and Nellie (Shock) Hornish.  On March 24, 1940 she married Ted Chase who preceded her in death on January 31, 2003.

Before graduating from Jewell High School in 1934 she began a book-keeping career at age 16 in her father's hardware store in Jewell.  Her bookkeeping and secretarial skills continued for more than 50 years as she and her husband owned and managed Chase Farms.

A life long member of the Poplar Ridge Church of the Brethren, Dorothy served the Lord through music and teaching.  She was the church Chorister for 50 years, the Bible School Director for 25 years, a Deacon, and former board member of the Brethren Good Shepherd retirement home in Fostoria, Ohio.

She is survived by sons Edward (Pam) Chase, Jerry (Judy) Chase, and daughter Judy (Marvin) Marshaus, all of Defiance.  Grandsons Bradley of Chicago, John of Fargo, N.D., Robert    of Defiance, Peter of San Diego, grand-daughter Lisa Allen of Findlay, two step granddaughters, nine great granddaughters, and 4 step great grandchildren.  A sister, Ruth Bauer and a brother Charles "Denny" Hornish, and Christian friend Phyllis Paul.

She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant son, her parents, and brother Donald Hornish.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 20, 2012 from 2 to 8pm in the Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home and one hour prior to the funeral service.


Funeral service will be Friday, September 21, 2012 at the Poplar Ridge Church of the Brethren at 11:00AM with Rev. Patricia Meeks and Rev. Richard Neuwirth officiating.

Burial will be in Poplar Ridge Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Poplar Ridge Church of the Brethren, Heifer International or CHP Hospice.
