Dorothy J. Sauer, 86, of Defiance, passed away on March 22, 2014 at the Laurels of Defiance, with her family at her side.

She was born on September 19, 1927 to Clem and Susie (Shawley) Cooper in Toledo, OH. She attended graduated from McClure High School. In 1944, Dorothy married Jean C. Holley, & he passed in 1964. On June 10, 1965, Dorothy married Lester Sauer in Defiance, Ohio. Dorothy and Lester moved to Lakeland, FL in 1984.

Dorothy worked as a Bookkeeper for Shipman Furniture and several other companies in Defiance. She was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church in Lakeland, FL, St. Mary's Catholic Church in Defiance, OH, Florida Airstream Unit (Past President), Toledo Airstream Unit, Kings & Queens Mobile Home Park Lakeland, FL (Past President & Manager), Defiance Women's Bowling (Past President). Dorothy also spent countless hours volunteering for the Red Cross and Lakeland Regional Medical Center.

Dorothy is survived by her loving spouse of 48 years Lester, of Defiance, OH, her children; Virginia (Richard) Ballentine of Alberton, GA, Larry (Mary) Holley of Defiance, OH, Elizabeth (Rev. Kevin) Koenig of Port St. Lucie, FL, Thomas (Colleen) Holley of Sherwood, OH, Sam (Judy) Sauer of Defiance, OH, & Thomas (Vicki) Sauer of Defiance, OH, brother, Robert (Erma) Miller of Bowling Green, OH, and many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Jean C. Holley, brother, George Cooper, grandson, Joshua Holley both in infancy, & sister, Mary Smith.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 28, 2014 9:30 am - 10:30 am at Schaffer Funeral Home, Inc., Defiance, Ohio.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 28, 2014, 11:00 am at the St Mary Catholic Church, Defiance, Ohio, with Father Randy Giesige, officiating.

Burial will take place in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Bowling Green, OH at a later date.
