Dontae Maurice Smith Jr. passed from this world into the arms of his Savior at 6 years old in Nationwide Children's Hospital, Columbus OH.  Dontae told his mom that he knew God was going to heal him, and God did just that in providing eternal healing. We cry here, but also praise God that Dontae is rejoicing in the presence of Jesus and his Grandpa Nick.  He was born November 9, 2017 in Indianapolis IN, the son of Alyssa Ramirez and Dontae Smith Sr.

Dontae "DJ" Smith Jr. was more than just a brother, son, and grandson. He was a bright light with a contagious smile and a heart full of love. He had a passion for football, basketball, bowling and any sport really. He enjoyed going to the park and time spent with his family. He was especially fond of Buzz Lightyear and Jesus.

His teammates and friends would say that he enjoyed playing on and off the field. Running, throwing, jumping, wrestling and playing as boys normally do. No matter the battle, he fought with such determination. That's why his nickname was "Champ" because he never gave up! He enjoyed school and his weekly visits at LifeWise Academy, where they would teach him about Jesus.

He was the baby of seven siblings and had a special bond with each one of them. He will be deeply missed by his mother Alyssa, and his siblings: Denzel, Malaya, Jasmine, Anaya, Nico, Kamari & his nephew JaKobi.

Visitation for DJ will be held on Monday, January 22, 2024, from 10:00 am till 12:00 pm at Believer's Church International, 1600 Ayersville Ave, Defiance OH.  A funeral service to celebrate his life will follow at 12:00 pm in the church.  Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, was honored to assist the family with arrangements.
