Donna M. Ferland of Defiance, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024 at the age of 91, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 16, 1932 to the late Joseph Sr. and Edith (Digby) Majeske. She was a 1950 graduate of St. Mary's Academy in Monroe, Michigan. On June 27, 1953 she married John Ferland Sr., who preceded her in death on September 28, 2013. Donna was a faithful member of St. John's Catholic Church. She treasured her years spent at home with her children. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Donna enjoyed painting, cooking, and loved animals and taking care of others. She was a "mother" to the whole neighborhood. Donna will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Donna is survived by her loving children, Mark (April) Ferland of Cincinnati, Laura (Dennis) Hammersmith, John Ferland Jr. (Peg Weber), Philip (Tami) Ferland and Edith (Mark) Schelling, all  of Defiance, and Donna (Dennis) Polter of Sherwood. She was a proud grandmother to 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son Paul (Susan) Ferland, granddaughter Erin Jo Ferland, and brothers Joseph Majeske Jr. and Rev. Edward Majeske. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson/Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton Street) in Defiance. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 31st at St. John Catholic Church, with Fr. David Cirata officiating. Donna will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery.
