Donald A. Schatz, 88, of Defiance, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2014 in Twin Rivers Nursing Home.

Don was born November 1, 1925, in Defiance Co., OH, the son of Arthur and Julia (Duerk) Schatz.  He was a graduate of Defiance High School, and he served in the US Army during the Korean War.  Don was awarded a silver star for his service.  He was a lifelong farmer and farming and tractors was his passion.  Don was a member of St John Lutheran Church and School, Defiance, and also a member of VFW Post 3360.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ruth Schatz.  Surviving are cousins.

Visitation for Don will be Monday, May 26, 2014, from 6-8 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, and Tuesday, May 27, 2014, from 10-11 am at St John Lutheran Church.  Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 11:00 am in St John Lutheran Church, with Rev. Donald L. Luhring officiating.  Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, with graveside military honors by VFW Post 3360.
