Donald J Mitchell, 82, of Defiance, passed away on  Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at the CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center.

He was born on August 8, 1932 to Donald and Anna  (McNally) Mitchell in Portage, PA  He married Nancy C. (Farabaugh) Mitchell  in 1955 and she preceded him in death in 1993.

Donald was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, its choir and St.Mary's Food Pantry at the church, a member of VFW Post 3360 and the K of C in Defiance.  He worked as machine chief at Johns Manville retiring in 1994.  Donald was a US Army veteran serving in the Korean War. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Donald is survived by his son, Donald C. Mitchell of Defiance, daughters, Mary Ann Mitchell Hurst of Defiance, Carol (Michael Kornacki) Mitchell of Bay Village, OH, Teresa (Kelly) Erman of Langhorne, PA, 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, brothers, Jim (Carol) Mitchell of Inverness, FL, Richard (Maria) Mitchell of Altoona, PA, Virginia (John) Settimio of Altoona, PA, and a sister-in-law, Shirley Mitchell of Altoona, PA.

He was preceded in death by his parents,wife, son, Kevin Mitchell and a brother, Robert Mitchell.

Visitation will be held  from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Friday, September 26, 2014 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, Ohio.  A Rosary service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday evening.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Randy Giesige officiating.   Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.  Graveside military rites will be accorded by VFW Post 3360.

The family requests memorials be directed to St. Mary's Food Pantry.
