Obituary

Donald D. Gearing Donald D. Gearing, 82, of Defiance, passed away at 8:25 P:M , Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 at Mercy Hospital of Defiance. He was born in Defiance, on September 28, 1926, he was the son of the late Grover (Joe) and Hazel (Croninger) Gearing Don served in the U.S. Army in WW II and Korea. He went to Washington D.C., in May, with the WW II Honor Flight. On June 11, 1949, he married Patricia (Dierkes) Gearing, who survives. He worked as a plumber-pipe fitter for Local # 50 Toledo, retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church, the American Legion and past member of the Knights of Columbus and Moose. He was a lifelong resident of Defiance and a 1944 graduate of Defiance High School. Besides his wife surviving are a daughter: Debra (Alan) Fick of Defiance; two Sisters: Opal Tawney of Bryan and Betty (Bill) Reich of the state of Florida; and two grandchildren Eric and Eryn Fick. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Ruth Clemens, three brothers Ralph (Jim), Paul (Doc), and Dale who died in infancy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at at St. John Catholic Church at 12:00 Noon on Monday, October 20th, with Father Todd Dominique officiating. Friends are invited to call Sunday 2-8 at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home, with a 7:00 p;m vigil service . Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery where the VFW Post # 3360 will conduct honorary military grave side rites. The family suggests memorials to the Defiance or Tinora Athletic Departments.
