Donald R. Gahris, age 74 of Defiance, peacefully passed away on Wednesday morning, February 21, 2024 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. He was born on September 19, 1949 to Robert and Lois (Scheuerman) Gahris in Defiance, Ohio. Don was a 1967 graduate of Defiance High School, and earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Toledo, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He worked as a Chemical Engineer for Medusa Cement, and later The Washington Group until his retirement in 2015. Don enjoyed bicycling and he loved his beloved dog "Pepper". He always considered Defiance his home, no matter how far he traveled. Don is survived by his sisters, Linda (Jonathan) Hay and Becky (Joseph) Geiger, all of Defiance, his nieces, Sarah (Ruben) Torres and Jennifer Hay, and nephews Matthew (Kristy) Geiger and James (Lisette) Hay.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, February 26, 2024 at Riverside Cemetery in Defiance, with Deacon Mark Homier officiating. Schaffer Funeral Home was honored to assist the family with arrangements. Memorials are suggested to Fort Defiance Humane Society.
