Donald J. Dieringer, 81, of Defiance, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 3, 2012.
He was born in Napoleon on December 22, 1930, the son of the late Anton Emanuel and Lorena (Long) Dieringer. On June 14, 1952, he was married to Dolores A. Adams in St. Mary Catholic Church, who passed away on August 20, 2006.
Don will be greatly missed by his daughters: Susan (Kenneth) Miller of Ft. Wayne, and Sandra (Mark) Lemon of Defiance; sons: David of New Haven, Bruce (Roberta) of Avon Lake, and Jerry of Lutherville, Maryland; brother, Walter (Jean) Dieringer of Napoleon, 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert A. Dieringer; grandson, Andrew J. Dieringer.
Don was a member of St. Mary Catholic church, St. Vincent DePaul, noodle club, money counter, and usher. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1039, a Fourth Degree Knight, and a former comptroller. Don was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a life member of VFW Post 3360, a former member of AMVETS Post 1991, and a former hospice volunteer and its auxiliary. He retired from the U.S. Post Office in 1989 after 31 years of service.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 on Tuesday, November 6, at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Randy Giesige officiating. Visitation is on Monday November 5 from 2-5 and 6-8 at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home with a scripture service at 7:30 p.m. The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard from 6-8 p.m. Monday evening. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, where VFW Post 3360 will conduct honorary military rites.
