Obituary

Denzel E. Sines "Ole Ranger Denny" Denzel Eugene "Ole Ranger Denny" Sines , 86, of Defiance, died at 8:05 A:M Monday, May 12, 2008 in his home. He was born October 25, 1921 in Pulaski Twp. Williams County, Oh. He was the son of the late Earl and Lylla (Brock) Sines. In 1940 he married Alice Louise (Ragan) Sines, who survives. Besides his wife surviving is a son Roger (Joan) Sines of Leesburg, Fl., a brother Loyal (Corrine) Sines of Stryker, a son in law Paul Flathman of Bascom, Oh. 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews all loved. He was preceded in death by a daughter Marlene (Sines) Flathman, a brother Reuben Sines and a sister Berna Deane Hill. Denzel worked at many occupations, had polio in 1950 and lived with that affliction all his life. He was Superintendent of Fayette waterworks for 10 years. Member of the Fayette Volunteer Fire Dept. and rescue squad. Member of the Fayette Christian Church where he served as a Deacon and youth leader. He was a Cub Master, Scoutmaster of Troop 64 for 11 years and Explorer leader at Fayette. In 1963 he came to Defiance as the Ranger at Camp Lakota - Boy Scouts of America, then Shawnee Reservation serving 9 counties. He worked there for 23 years and became "Ole Ranger " to many scouters and staff. While working at Camp he also became Scoutmaster for Good Samaritan School and Children's Home, for a number of years. He had been in Scouting 56 years, has many awards including the wood badge, Order Arrow St. George Protestant Award, Silver Beaver, James E. West Fellowship. In 2002 he received the Lights of Defiance award for scouting services. He was a member, Deacon, trustee, youth leader at Defiance First Church of Christ, now Defiance Christian Church. He loved serving his God and Scouting, serving boys. Services will be 11:00 A:M Thursday at the Defiance Christian Church, 955 Standley Rd. Defiance,Oh. Officiating will be Rev. Ken Mulpas. Visitation will be 2-8 Wednesday at the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home and an hour before services Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery in Fayette. Suggested memorials are to the Defiance Christian Church, Camp Lakota or the Donor's Choice.
