Delora F. Duerk, 93, of Defiance, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at the Laurel's of Defiance.
She was born on November 10, 1921 to Carl and Frieda (Riefers) Plassman in Henry County, Ohio. On September 28, 1941 she married Harland F. Duerk, who preceded her in death in 2004.
Delora was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Defiance. She worked at St. John Lutheran School as a cook, retiring in 1982. She enjoyed quilting, and she volunteered for many organizations at church, such as the Food Pantry and the Clothing Closet.
Delora is survived by her daughters, Marie (Larry) Font of Angola, Indiana, and Lori (Hal) Hanenkrath of Defiance, sons, John (Loraine) Duerk of Defiance, and James (Faye) Duerk of Brunswick, Georgia, 21 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, son-in-law, Allan Maier of South Elgin, Illinois, and sister, Henrietta Baden of Troy, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harland F. Duerk, daughters, Diane Maier and Barbara Ann Duerk, brothers, Norman, Donald, Eldor, and Carlton Plassman, and sisters, Hermie Smith, and Lorina Bruns, a daughter-in-law Jean Duerk and three great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, June 19, 2015, at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, and one hour prior to services at the church. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at St. John Lutheran Church, Defiance, with Pastor Donald L. Luhring and Pastor Joshua Schmidt officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance.
